The Surrounding Area

Smeaton Farm is near to a number of Cornish Attractions including:

Cotehele House

In the woods above the tidal River Tamar nestles Cotehele, built by the Edgcumbes in Tudor times. It is a house of many stories, myths and legends. King George III and Queen Charlotte came to see Cotehele's ancient and romantic interior in 1789, and found it festooned with tapestries and adorned with textiles, arms and armour, pewter, brass and old oak furniture. Llittle has changed, and a visit to the old house is a magical experience. Outside, the terraces are formally planted, then beyond you can lose yourself in the jungle plantation of the valley garden, which includes a medieval stewpond and dovecote (complete with doves – a children's favourite). Climb to the top of the Prospect Tower, a three-sided 18th-century folly high above the house, and enjoy fantastic views, or seek out the tranquillity of the Upper Garden. Cotehele Quay on the river is home to the restored Tamar sailing barge, Shamrock, and gateway to the wider estate, with its abundant wildlife and evocative industrial ruins – all that remains of a rich industrial past.

Langmans Restaurant

The Eden Project

Eden is a living theatre of plants and people, and like every great theatre what happens on stage is dramatic and constantly changing. There’s all the stuff you’ve heard about: the huge rainforest, the biggest greenhouses in the world, and art and architecture inspired by the natural world. And there's a lot you may not know about: hidden corners such as Wild Cornwall, a mini Cornwall of yore, or our Spiral Garden, for instance. For children we also have new trails and endless leafy places to play with shortcuts, hideaways, stepping stones and sandpits.
